Tourism in a changing world

The world we are all living in is becoming increasingly global. There is a lot of climate change news about at the moment. There are some places which may be threatened by global climate change that you should maybe consider visiting while you still can.

Earth could have global climate change

In Australia there is the Great Barrier Reef. In the news lately because of a shipping accident, this delicate coral based ecosystem could be threatened by changes in ocean temperature. One of the world’s most popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef has been described as one of the Seven Underwater Wonders of the World.

In the Caribbean there are the Virgin Islands. Comprised of both British and US territory these islands are a Mecca for tourists with their white beaches and war seas. Climate change threatens not only the wildlife of these islands, but also the very islands themselves.

The Galapagos Islands were part of Charles Darwin’s famous voyage of discovery on the Beagle. The animals and birds that he saw here helped to shape his hugely influential Theory of Evolution. So called ‘eco-tourism’ is gaining popularity, so you can visit these islands and see the unique plants and animals (such as the giant turtle) that love there for yourselves and with a clean conscience.

Of course it is not just islands and coral reefs that are under threat. Several of the world’s biggest cities are under threat. New York, Tokyo and London will all be at risk from flooding should sea levels rise. So see these places while you can, because they may be gone sooner than you think.
