Guide to India – new Delhi

New Delhi is the capital city of India. New Delhi is the name for the newer part of Delhi. A thriving metropolis of over 18 Million, Delhi is very much the beating heart of today’s India. There are countless reasons to visit New Delhi, ranging from business to some of the world’s most exciting sight-seeing attractions.

New Delhi covers the site of no less than seven ancient cities. This means that there are countless historic al monuments that can be seen. Among these a couple stand out in particular. Jantar Mantar is a collection of astounding and unique architectural astronomical instruments. These were built from 1724 onwards by the scientifically minded Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. A lot of the structures are variations on the common sundial.

The Lodi Gardens are another must –visit New Delhi spot. Sprawling over 90 acres this incredible tranquil and beautiful park is a great place to get away from the noise and traffic of the Delhi streets. Contained within the park are the ornate tombs of such historical figures  as Sikander Lodi, Sheesh Bumbad and Mohammed Shah.

Delhi is the most important commercial centre in Northern India. It also has some of the highest incomes anywhere in India. A powerhouse in everything from manufacturing to Information Technology and Finance, the world loves to do business in New Delhi. So much so in fact, that it as the world’s seventh most expensive office space!

Getting to the city is easier now than it has ever been, with flights to New Delhi touching down at the  busy but efficient Indira Gandhi International airport. Named for a former Indian Prime minister,  combined with Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport it handle over fifty percent of South Asia’s air traffic. The city is very well served by domestic flights, train services and roads, which are the arteries that connect the Heart of India to the rest of the country.
