When most people think of Australia they think of the iconic Sydney Opera House. Completed in 1973 the unique structure has become renowned for its unique styling. If you want to have this in the pictures from your holiday to Australia then you will need to visit New South Wales.
Sydney is unsurprisingly one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia, and is the location of the world famous Bondi Beach. Also referred to as the ‘Harbour City’ Sydney has a reputation for welcoming outsiders, and is known for its international feel.
There is always a lot of exciting nightlife and cultural events in Sydney. One of the world top fashion cities, the city plays host to Australian fashion week. Of course it is not just fashion with events such as the Sydney Film festival (as well as smaller film festivals such as Flikerfest and short film oriented Tropfest) make Sydney one of the film world’s main centres. The opening of Fox Studios Australia in 1998 further cemented this reputation. Several notable actors and filmmakers have emerged from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sidney. These include ‘Romeo and Juliet’ director Baz Luhrman and eccentric superstar Mel Gibson.
The nightlife of Sydney is legendary. Hotspots include the Kings Cross and Oxford Street areas, as well as the glitzy Darling Harbour. There is a thriving Lesbian and Gay scene in Sydney, with annual event Mardi Gras, held along Oxford street celebrating the contribution of this part of the community.
Outside of Sydney there is a lot for the visitor to see and do. The Blue Mountains of New South Wales are an unforgettable sight. The range of climates is striking, from sub-tropical to cool temperate. Southern New South Wales is a popular ski destination. There are national parks in the state which have terrain such as rainforests, bush and desert, with the diversity of native wildlife to match.
