Britain

More and more British holidaymakers are choosing not to go overseas this year. This is a continuing trend, partly it can be explained by a certain amount of belt tightening due to the economic hard times. Partly also there has been a certain amount of anxiety over the risks of a repeat of the disruptions caused  by volcanic eruption and  British Airways strikes. In addition to this however there is the appeal of Britain as a world class destination.

Among international visitors Britain has held a position as being one of the leading and most aspirational destinations. Britain, although sometimes referred to as a  small island is actually a fairly large a diverse country. Of course it is still an island, and at any time you are never more than 75 miles from the sea. A lot of the coastlines a truly spectacular, and sailing windsurfing and surfing are all popular activities.

Part of the draw of Britain has to be the natural world. The unspoilt wild spaces of the Scottish highlands are a sight that once seen will never be forgotten. The smart visitor takes flights to Manchester and then travels through the countryside  of the North of England towards the border. Hadrian”s wall, built by the Roman emperor Hadrian separates the  two nations and is steeped in history.

At the other geographical extreme of the country the South West Peninsular is the warmest an sunniest part of Britain. The counties of Devon and Cornwall are the most popular for British holidaymakers. Beaches and quaint rural charm are combined with cream teas and unique retail experiences. When you arrive in the South West just ask anybody about Trago Mills and they will smile the bitter-sweet smile of someone who knows that a very special secret has got out.

Flights to London are of course usually the gateway for the world into Britain. The many attractions of London need no write up, as they are so well known. From Buckingham palace to Oxford Street shopping, everyone wants a piece of the capital! Any time of year London is  great to visit.
